The Missing Years - Lost in Time
There are many black and white Doctor Who episodes
no longer known to exist anywhere in the world,
particularly from seasons 3, 4, and 5. Quite often,
only 1 or 2 episodes remain from a 4- or 6-part story,
making the story watchable in part, but incomplete.
Fan interest was high enough to justify the release
of these odd episodes on a series of special videos,
and more recently on DVD.
A half-hour documentary entitled "The Missing Years"
details the history of loss and rediscovery of 60's
Doctor Who, hosted by Frazer Hines and Deborah Watling,
and featuring interviews with many of the people at the
BBC and around the world whose hard work has resulted
in the salvaging of many of the Doctor's adventures.

The "Lost in Time" collection features many odd episodes
from now incomplete stories - see complete details below.
One disc is devoted
to William Hartnell stories, two to Patrick Troughton.
It should be noted that the pop-up production note subtitles normally
found on most Doctor Who DVD's are not available on this set,
and only a handful of the episodes feature a commentary.
However, there are a large number of clips from still missing
episodes, which are presented here with greater care and
completeness than anywhere else to date.
Other extras
include full length sound from more missing episodes,
and the second Patrick Troughton disc features an expanded
version of the documentary "The Missing Years". This
collection is a must for die-hard fans of the series,
but those new to the series will probably be more satisfied
with the purchase of one of the many complete stories now
available on other DVD's.
The Hartnell and Troughton episodes from this collection
are also available separately in the Region 1 NTSC format.

episode 7,

& Michaeljohn Harris
- note: The Play All function goes through all episodes
of "The Moonbase", including the audio only episodes,
before "The Underwater Menace 3", and so is not
strictly in order. Although this puts the better
story first, it starts viewers off with an audio
only episode played over a still picture - which perhaps
wasn't the ideal way to begin the disc.
